Hello,

Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:

Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.

We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.

As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!

Hi, Bill/Wm,

I also have Schmidt or Schmid relatives (from Germany; 1800s) so I truly hope you will open your tree's red lock. We are a collaborative bunch, and while I haven't been able to connect hee with my historical-research relatives, there's always hope, and sometimes that hope comes from a DNA test (w/ ftdna.com the most scientifically sound (read as non-commercial) site). Good luck with your search, and will you please put me on your trusted list so that I may learn from your tree and vice versa.

Hi ,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

So glad to hear things are going well!

In case you haven't found it yet, there is a tool that will help you keep track of your Trusted List requests. Go to the My Wikitree menu, you'll see a "Requests" option. Click that, and you can see every request you've submitted and whether or not action has been taken on it.

Also, sometimes it helps to send the Profile Manager a Private Message if you don't hear from them in about a week.

Personally, I like to keep a "tickler file" for stuff like this so I don't forget about them! :) If you're interested, I'd be happy to share how I set it up. Just let me know.

Keep plugging away on those ancestors! It gets easier as you go along. :)

Happy Thursday!

Julie

Hey, William!

It looks like you've been making some progress on your family tree. :-)

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Are you finding everything OK?

Hello!!! My name is Bill Schmidt & I have had a desire for 20 years now, to know more about who is in my broader family that I carry the name & bloodline, but I haven't met any of them! Okay, maybe I've met 3 or 4 (dad's grandmother, uncle, aunt & 1 cousin) when I was to young (before age 2) to remember meeting them. In the late 90's I started writing names when I learned about them.I found it hard at first, to believe that I was in the same grade with 2 other kids that had & spelled the same last name, yet we weren't related to each other in any way that we could find! Cousins started a family tree & quit after finding nothing several times. I'm the family "tracker", because I haven't & will never quit until I learn more about them or who they are. Maybe I can help someone along the way!!
