Text: He studied at Campion, Loras College and North American Major seminary in Rome.
He was ordained and sent to St. Mary's Church, Dubuque, Iowa.
In the late 1930's he received permission from the Archbishop of Dubuque to become a chaplain . . .
Father Al was stationed on the Oklahoma.
He sacrificed his own life to assist others to escape. He was the first chaplain to die in WWII.
His chalice was found in the ruins and is on display at the beautiful chapel at Loras College.
There is a harbor on the Mississippi at Dubuque named after him with a monument.
