Death:
Date: Jul 1833
Place: Madison, Franklin, Ohio, USA[5]
Note: #DI2580

The summer following the birth of his last child John, his brother Henry and Henry's son Percy, age 7 died in a cholera epidemic described in the attached articles[6]

Schoonover, guardianship, Sept 21, 1833, George Beals appointed guardian of Abraham, aged 13 yrs., Charles W. aged 8 yrs., Margaret, aged 7 yrs., William, aged 5 yrs. and Angeline, aged 2 yrs., minor heirs of John Schoonover, dec'd. Securities, Isaac Painter and Edward Hedden.
Schoonover, guardianship, Feb 11, 1834, Alva Schoonover chosen by John, aged 17 yrs., minor heir of John Schoonover, decd.

Research Notes

Some research has been done as of late that lead some question on the existence of Sylvester, but we have pretty much confirmed that Hiram, although not mentioned in the guardianship paper, did survive and live on - moving with family to La Salle county, Illinois

An Abraham Schoonover mentioned as well as John and Henry as a taxpayer in 1825 - our Abraham would have been 4

Will add the letters from Mary Deeds to brother

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

surely Mary and John did not marry the day Charles was born and presumably the day Sarah died! I am sure that that is not correct - although it may have happened swiftly as Margaret was born the following August - so I can not so far locate any record of the marriage - sometime between October and December

Looking at the census data and then the blurb from the will it would seem that the youngest son Hiram Floryan did not live to the age of three or would have been part of the guardianship paper when John Died

The other Female in the census was surely his new wife Mary Deeds - mother of the last three children - there was at one time correspondence from her to a relative and I will see if I can locate and attach that

my question is about the eldest son Alva - if he was born before the wedding was he in fact Sarah's child born out of wedlock, or no?

George Beals was appointed guardian of the children when John died in the cholera epidemic of 1833 - I am thinking of trying to find out more about him

Have suggested a merge with my John Schoonover - Schoonover-6 and also change the name as John Jr is wrong - his fathers name was Jan not John, in all my research I never saw a Jr an find it just wrong! Anyhow waiting for merge as this is the same guy, and my gggrandfather

Schoonover-583 and Schoonover-6 appear to represent the same person because: almost everything matches here - lets put this together!
