Schoonover was born on 9 Nov. 1919[1] at Corning, Steuben Co., New York, USA.[2] She appeared on the census of 7 Jan. 1920 in the household of her parents, Vernum Mather Schoonover and Marguerite (Hungerford) Schoonover, at Corning, Steuben Co., New York.[3] She appeared on the census of 15 April 1930 in the household of her parents at 14 Elm St., Corning, Steuben Co., New York.[4] She was a stenographer at the glass works when she and her parents, appeared on the census of 3 April 1940 in the household of grandmother, Nellie (Mersereau) Hungerford, at 65 Ontario St., Corning, Steuben Co., New York.[5]
She married Bertram Harold Knouse[6] on 31 Oct. 1953.[7]
She and Bertram Harold Knouse lived in 1960 at 20 Ward Hill Rd., Rochester, New York.[8]
Bertram died in 1972[9] and was buried at Hope Cemetery, Corning, Steuben Co., New York.[6]
Eleanor died on 29 June 2002[1] at Woods Edge Haborside Health Care Center, Bridgewater, Somerset County, New Jersey, at age 82 and was buried in at Hope Cemetery, Corning, Steuben Co., New York.[2] Her memorial has the dates of her birth and death.[10]

BRIDGEWATER, NJ Eleanor Schoonover Knouse, age 82, formerly of Dunedin, FL and Corning, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Woods Edge Haborside Health Care Center in Bridgewater, NJ. Mrs. Knouse was born in Corning, November 9, 1919 the daughter of the late Vernum and Marguerite (Hungerford) Schoonover.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family and especially her daughter with Muscular Dystrophy. She cared for her daughter for as long as she could. Always seeking a better life for her through medical breakthroughs or fairness in treatment of the disabled. Eleanor never forgot her larger family and growing up in Corning and enjoyed her later years in Florida. Her enjoyment in life was simple pleasures of travel, playing bridge and dining out. She always enjoyed her close friends from Corning who lived near her in Florida.
Eleanor worked as a teacher's aide, secretary and administrative assistant prior to her move to Florida in 1978. She moved to New Jersey in 1999 to be close to her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Marguerite "Peggy" Knouse of Somerset, NJ; one son, Jeffrey (Patricia) Knouse of Bridgewater, NJ; grandchildren: Jarryd, Dayna and Mackenzie Knouse; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 10-11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, N.Y. Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. John D. Vertigan officiating.
