Biography

POB "Nieder Harpersdorf, Schlesien, Prussia" per Family Search, "Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania" evidently a guess.

George Scholtze arrived 12 Sep 1734 in Philadelphia aboard St. Andrew Galley with his mother and siblings (four sisters) in 1734, and signed both loyalty oaths as "George Scholtze." There was a second "George Scholtze" on the same vessel, but he was evidently part of another family. (Strassburger vol I pp 136-142)

"George Schultz, son of Balthaser and Susanna, was born about Candlemas, in 1710, and he died March 21, 1784. He was a farmer in Upper Hanover township, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania and his descendants are quite numerous in that section. He married Anna Hoffman, daughter of Reverend Balthaser Hoffman, in 1737, and she died January 16, 1796. Their children were: Susann, Balthaser, Christopher, Ursula, Gregory and Eve." [1]

George died March 21, 1784, in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania and is buried in the Washington Schwenkfelder Cemetery, Located at the north-east corner of the intersection of Kutztown Road and County Line Road in Hereford Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Researcher's Notes

The part of Pennsylvania where George's family lived was part of Philadelphia county (as was much of Pennsylvania) until after the Revolutionary War. Montgomery County was created on September 10, 1784, from part of Philadelphia County, and named for General Richard Montgomery.

There were two Find A Grave memorials for George, both with the same date of death and cemetery. Both have been removed. A photograph of his headstone may still be viewed here: https://images.findagrave.com/photos/2018/216/191975174_5afb08b5-969a-4131-aca5-17344ce764b0.jpeg
