He was born in Dresden on August 9, 1862, and died in Leipzig on February 17, 1941. The only child of Woldemar Adolf Schultz and Louise Emilie Trinius, he changed his last name from "Schultz" to "Schultz-Trinius". He joined the Imperial German army and rose to Colonel, earning the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry, and the Officer's Cross (with swords) of the Albert Order. He later took on deep and extensive research into the history of the Trinius family.
He and his first wife divorced in 1910; he remarried shortly afterward.
(The genealogist specifically says that Moritz himself made that change in his last name, but not why – was it to honor his widowed single mother? Did she revert back to her maiden name after her husband's death?)
