Joel was interested in education -and music. In the great war he served in the thickest of fighting in the Argonne, France, as artillery man. Returning, he at once went to Oberlin to complete his education, first in business college where he served after graduation on the faculty or staff. In the meantime he spent his spare time in the conservatory, studying voice and he sang in all the choral organizations of the conservatory. He was married at Oberlin to Doris Comstock, November 24, 1920, by Rev Phil E. Harding. In religion, Joel subscribed to Christian Science. Doris was born September 12, 1881, Amherst, Ohio. On July 29, 1934 his many relatives and friends here, where he had grown up, were shocked by the news of his sudden death from indigestion. One sweet daughter shed sunshine into the happy life of this couple.
