Martin Zolman "Max" Schwartz was born on April 10, 1892, in Focsani, Vrancea, Romania, his father, Leon, was 24 and his mother, Esther, was 21. He married Sophia Zellinger on November 18, 1917, in Detroit, Michigan. He died on June 6, 1972, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 80.
