The name Jacob Schwartz appears on the government rolls in the War of the Revolution. On 27 June, 1781, he resided within the District of the 8th Battalion, Lancaster Co, Militia, subject to Malita Law, 2nd Company, 8th Class (PA. Archives, 5th Ser. V1,830). After the war he was a merchant in Salisbury, Pennsylvania, where he died on 26 July, 1842. Two sons died in 1814 (They were said to have been killed in an accident). The family were members of the Lancaster Congregation of the Moravian Church. He is buried in the Old Cemetery at Salisbury, Pennsylvania.
From a note written by Laura Bell Schwartz Thompson (Daughter of Horatio Schwartz) "Catherine Kimmel, married my great-grand father Jacob Schwartz in Penn.: had several children by him,, then they moved to Illinois. After a few years they separated & he went back to Penn. leaving her with the children". In the "History of Jackson County Illinois" published in 1879 by Brink, McDonough & Company it states "Jacob and Catherine Sw artz moved to Jackson County, in 1817, and settled near Brownsville, where they lived for a number of years.
