Biography

Edmund was born about 1524 in Bradfield, Suffolk England.

He and his wife Joan had ten children including Henry, their second child. Their first two children were baptized at Bradfield St George and the rest at St. Nicholas (the parish church) in Rattlesden, County Suffolk. The village of Rattlesden sits in a steep valley. Half-timbered houses clamber the slopes.

Edmund Scott appears in the parish records of Rattlesden, for the first time in 1567, when he brought his daughter Dinay for baptism. In 1569, he was a “questman,” a parish officer and a church warden in 1588-1589: and collector in 1593 and 1611 .

Joane, “wife of Edmund—an old woman”, was buried 15 May 1615 in Rattlesden, Suffolk, England.

Edmund was buried 14 Aug 1621 in the churchyard at Rattlesden, Suffolk, England: [1]

Research Notes

Married Joan, who died 15 May 1615, Rattlesden, Suffolk. Edmund Scott appears in the records of Rattlesden in 1569 as a "Questman," a parish officer. He probably came to Rattlesden from some other parish (Mary Lovering Holman, Ancestry of Charles Pillsbury and John Pillsbury, two volumes (Concord, New Hampshire: The Rumford Press, 1938), 1:81).
He appears in the parish records of Rattlesden for the first time in 1567 when he brought his daughter Dinay to baptism. The Rattlesden register begins in 1558. The absence of the baptisms of Dinay's older siblings seems to indicate he came to Rattlesden from another parish. He was churchwarden in 1588-1589 and collector in 1593 and 1611. He was buried at age "about ninety-seven years" which is possibly an exaggeration (Walter Goodwin Davis, The Ancestry of Phoebe Tilton, 1775-1847
(Portland, Maine: The Anthoensen Press, 1947), p. 117).

Are the two wives on this profile actually the same person? They appear to be, apart from the different dates of death.

Thanks for merging. The profile now has quite a few managers. Can I suggest you remove Hart-969, given she doesn't have pre-1700?
