Marthetta Strode, 104, passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior and Lord, Saturday February 6, 2010.
She was born October 3, 1905, and was a graduate of Meridian High School. She was a devoted loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, of 72 years, and children, Virginia (Bud) Cooley, Dale, Glenn O., and Arthur (Laura) Strode, and grandchildren Patrick, Shanti Cooley, and Jessica Armstrong.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Lusk; daughter, Jessie (Sid) Montgomery; daughters-in-law, Marilyn and Donna Strode; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Marthetta shared her love for the Lord by caring and nursing her parents, family, friends, neighbors and foster-parenting children. She loved to cook, and gather her family together for holidays and family celebrations. All were welcome at her home and table, anytime.
She shared her talents and gifts of sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She loved traveling, gardening, music and was an avid reader.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bellingham, WA, and its oldest member for many years. She enjoyed learning about her Lord in Sunday school, worship service, and Bible studies. She served her Lord as a Sunday school teacher, member and President of Women's Ministries, and on the Hostess Committee.
She loved to help people in need, and was always involved in national and foreign mission work.
She was a member of Sunset Club, (a group of neighborhood ladies who lived on Sunset Avenue) for over fifty years.
Visitation will be Friday, February 12th from noon to 7 p.m. at Moles-Bayview Chapel. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 13th, at 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Bellingham WA. A short Graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 16th, at Woodlawn Cemetery at 3 p.m.
