Biography

Alexander was born on 24 April 1814 in Borthwick, Midlothian. He was baptized on 08 May 1814. [1]

He was the youngest child of Alexander Scott and Mary Shaw, and brother of Elizabeth, Charles, Margaret and Robert.

In 1841 Alexander was living in Shandwick, Parish of Logie Easter. His occupation is Tile Drain Inspector. [2] His age is given as 20. (1841 Census ages were rounded down)

He married Christina Stewart on 25 June 1841 in Logie Easter. (On the registration of the marriage it names Alexander Scott and MARGARET Stewart).

They had seven children - Catharine, Mary, Helen, Jessie (and twin sister Joan), John and Alexander.

Catharine was born on 19 February, 1842. On the record of her birth it states "Lawful daughter of Alexander Scott and MARGARET Stewart."

(Various names are given for the wife of Alexander - Christine, Christina, Christian and Margaret - her birth was registered as CHRISTIAN Stewart)

Jessie was born on 05 July 1848. She was the twin of Joan. (I have not found any other record of Joan).

In 1851 Alexander and Christina were living at Glastulloch, Logie Easter, Ross-shire with their children: Catherine (9), Mary (5), Helen (5), Jessie (3) and John (10 months).[3]
