Biography

George Dewey Scott Was born 29 Mar 1902, in Wise, Wise County, Virginia. His parents were William Scott and Hettie McPeak. He married Helena Agnes Slemp 8 July 1922, in Wise County, Virginia. George Dewey Scott passed away 15 Apr 1987, in Clearwater, Pinellas County, Florida, and is buried at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap, Wise County, Virginia.[1][2][3]

  • Note: According to his Find A Grave memorial, he was the son of William Henderson Scott and Hetty McPeak, and married three time: Helena Agnes Slemp, Elizabeth Eileen "Betty" Hurd and Martha E. Robinson.

The marriage record for daughter Helen Hettie to Clifford C Hamilton, show her parents as Geroge D. Scott and Helena Slemp. She was born in Norton, Virginia, in 1923.[4]

In 1930, George Scott, a 28 year old clerical worker in a factory, lived in a place he rented with his wife Helena, 25 years old, and two children: Helen, 6; and George, 2. George was 20 years old when he was married, and Helena was 17. All were born in Virginia, as were their parents.[5]

1940 US Federal Census" Detroit, Wayne, Michigan

In 1940, George D. Scott, 38 years old b. Virginia, worked as a national sales manager for grocery stores. He lived in a place he owned at 18981 Pennington Drive with his wife Elizabeth, b. Minnesota, and two children b. Virginia: George, 12; and Helen, 16 b. Virginia. The family lived in the same place in 1935. Both George and his wife Elizabeth have had two years of college.[6]
