Note: Birthdate established by 1850 census, Pulsaski County, Missouri, "age 46" in 1850.
Birthplace from 1850 census, Kentucky.
Full name could be James Julius Scott.
!Family folklore states that Julius Scott was a Campbellite Minister. He was
found on a Russelville, AR marriage record as Minister of the Gospel who
performed the marriage. The 1850 Census record for Pulaski County, MO gives a
JULIUS SCOOT and wife, Anjaline with five children listed. Since four of
the childrens ages are given as 16, 13, 11 and 9 and Anjaline as being only 21
it is assumed that she is a second wife. Only one child, Mary E. age 9/12,
would likely be hers. On the same census record and living nearby is her
Mother, Nancy Symes, (age 45 and born in Ky) listed with children: Julian age
18 b IL, Luisa Jane age 14 b MO, Polly R. age 9 b MO, Francis M. age 7 b MO,
and Lucindia age 4 b MO. Family history tells us that Julius died shortly
before James Eden Scott's birth and that Angeline died shortly after his birth
in 1862 leaving him an orphan to be taken and cared for by his aunt, Lucindy
Simms Chastain.
First marriage established as Martha Jolliff in Jefferson County, Illinois. She died 1848 in Missouri.
