Jane was the daughter of Daniel Scott and Jane Johnson and was born about 1688 in Anne Arundel County. Jane was married first to Francis Watkins around 1708 and was the mother of three sons from this marriage: Francis, Samuel and John. Francis Watkins was deceased by 11 MAY 1713 when Jane Watkins posted bond on his estate with her securities Daniel Scott Jr. & Thomas Biddison.

In 1747 Jane Hughes reported her husband to the vestry of St. George's Parish for unlawful cohabitation with a woman named Henrietta Jones. Jane Hughes was the mother of the following children by Samuel Hughes:
to my grandson Thomas Hughes the sum of 15 pounds current money of Pennsylvania
to my daughter Margaret Hanson one shilling sterling & no more to her or her heirs
to my daughter Jane Osborn one shilling sterling & no more to her or her heirs
to my grandson Thomas Little, son of my daughter Sarah one shilling sterling and no more
to my grandson John Hall Hughes son of daughter Sarah Little, deceased all the residue of my estate, but in case my grandson should die before he arrives of age, then my will is that my estate be divided as follows:
one half to be equally divided between my grandchildren Daniel Watkins, Francis Watkins, Jane Watkins, Elizabeth Watkins and Nathaniel Watkins, children of my son Francis Watkins
to my grandson Daniel Scott Watkins one shilling sterling and no more.
I appoint my grandson John Hall Hughes my whole and sole executor
