Biography

Arthur Hugh Scott was born on 5 March 1878 in the family home at 1 The Chestnuts, Branch Hill, Hampstead, Middlesex, England. He was the sixth child and third son of Russell and Jessie (Thurburn) Scott (Source: Birth certificate; Source: A Family Biography 1662 to 1908: Table IV).

He married, first, Mildred Minturn on 30 October 1906 in her parent's home in New York, New York, USA (Source: A Family Biography 1662 to 1908). They had three children - two girls then a boy. Arthur was the co-headmaster of a school in France that was intended to marry the best of the French academic regime with the best of the English non-academic areas. There was conflict in the management of the school and, ultimately, Arthur left (Source: family memories).

Arthur married, second, Mabel Louise Alexander in September 1928 (in Switzerland?). They had one daughter and Arthur adopted Mabel's son. They lived for many years on the edge of the New Forest at Fordingbridge, Hampshire, where Arthur was able to have several large outdoor aviaries where he bred white canaries - known as lutinos [birds exhibiting genetic xanthochromism: from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/lutino] (Source: family memories).

Arthur died 12 May 1967 at his home The Roost, Frogham, Fordingbridge, Hampshire (Source: England & Wales, National Probate Calendar).
