[1] John Wilson (M. D.) b. 22 Jan 1819 Hermitage Springs, Jackson (now Clay) co. Tennessee d. Dec 1854 Texas twp., Dewitt co. Ill. ("while erecting a house", but no word on how literally that should be taken)

Martin P. Scott
Among the comfortable situated citizens of Texas township, who have surrounded themselves by the necessities and some of the luxuries of life, by their own efforts and habits of high morality, thrift and perserveence. is Martin P. Scott. His birth occured near Rock Creek, Dewitt county, Illinois on March 27, 1850.
He is the son of John W. and Leuinda Blair Scott.
John W. Scott was a farmer all his life as well as a physician by profession, and for a number of years after locating in Rock Creek he practiced in that locality as well as in Clinton, but as he grew older he devoted his attention to his farming. He lived until our subject was about 40 years of age and died while erecting a pleasant home for his family and himself in Texas township aboul two miles south of the city of Clinton.
His widow, who passed her eighty-seventh birthday in February, 1901, resides with our subject in Texas township.
Eight children were born to this good man and his wife, namely:
  1. Elizabeth, who married Abraham Mooney, of California
  2. Sarah Ann (Bennent), , who married Robert Bennett, of Clinton, Iowa, and he is a contractor and carpenter;
  3. Mary Scott Kirby 1843–1929, who is the widow of William Kirby, who died about four years ago in Tunbridge township, and he was a fanner
  4. Zirelda, who is the wife of H. C. Strange, and he is a farmer of Texas township;
  5. Lorenzo Dow, a farmer of California;
  6. Martin P. Scott 1850–1924 - our subject;
  7. Vina, who is the wife of Henry Griffith of Tunbridge township, who is a farmer;
  8. John was killed by a train in Tunbridge about seven years ago, and he was a farmer, and left a wife and two children.

Leuinda's parents died when she was about 5, and she was raised by an uncle, Henry Brown. Her maiden name may have been Blair. She was first married to John W. Scott. He died on 24 Dec 1854. They had the following children: Sarah Ann (Bennent), Zerilda (Strange), Vina (Griffin) Mary (Kirby), Martin Scott, Lorenza Donthart Scott, John C.Scott. My grandmother is Leuinda Spencer Hardisty. I have a first cousin named Leuinda, and she named her daughter Leuinda as well.
