Biography

William Chase Scott was born at Machias, Maine, c1787; [1] died, probably at Hudson, Wisconsin, after 1860; [1] reportedly married, probably c1809, Mary Mitchell, who died at Hudson, Wisconsin after 1855 and before 1860. William C. Scott still resided in Saint James, New Brunswick, as of Oct 1844, when he executed two deeds to his son Harris (Charlotte Co., NB, deeds T:383-384). He reportedly went to Wisconsin in 1849, traveling via the Erie Canal, and then by stage, and then returned to Saint Stephen in 1850 to bring his family to their new home. It is likely for that reason that he is not found in the 1850 USC of Wisconsin, nor in the 1851 census of New Brunswick. William and Mary are said both to be buried on their homestead, the first farmland granted on the Hudson Prairie. [2]
