Maud was born in Eccles, Lancashire in 1861 and grew up in Lancashire. After her father's death, the family moved to Wales, where in the 1891 census she was living with her mother and sister Gertrude. In the 1901 census she was joined there by her brothers Dugald and Walter. She never married. She later went to live with her younger sister Dorothy Hancock in Kennel Holt, Kent, and died there in 1951.
