Sir John Scott, 1st Bt. was the son of Patrick Scott of Ancrum and his wife Elizabeth Simpson.[1]
He was designed "of Kirkstyle" (Roxburghshire). Obtained by Charter, under the Great Seal in 1670, the lands and barony of Ancrum, Co. Roxburgh, and afterwards received a patent, dated 27 Oct. 1671, creating him a Baronet of Nova Scotia, with remainder to his heirs male.[2]
He married firstly, likely about 1650, Elizabeth Scott, the daughter to Francis Scott, of Mangerston,[1][2] an illegitimate son of Walter Scott, 2nd Lord Buccleuch, later 1st Earl of Buccleuch. They had four sons and five daughters,[2] including:
He married secondly, likely about 1686, Elizabeth Bennet, daughter of Sir William Bennet, 1st Bt.[1] He was likely past 50 at this stage, she less than 20. She died d.s.p.m.[1]
He married thirdly, Apr 1708, Barbara, daughter of Walter Ker, of Littledean.
John died in 1712.[1]
