There passed away on 27th April, after many months of weakness and suffering, one of our best known and most widely esteemed pastoralists, Mr. Andrew Essex Scott, until recently part owner of Gingie Station, on the Barwon River, near Walgett, N.S.W. His father owned the property in the eighties, and "Essie Scott," as he was known by his friends, was on the Station during that period; on the death of his father in 1889 the property was purchased by Mr. James Richmond and Mr. A. E. Scott in partnership, and the management of the station continued under Mr. Scott's supervision from that time till the end of 1916. During that period the Gingie flock, which always had a good reputation, was continuously improved till it became one of the best Merino flocks in the north-western district, the Gingie sale sheep being eagerly purchased by buyers either for breeding or fattening. At the end of 1916, in consequence of Mr. Scott's failing health, the property was sold to Mr. C. W. Pye.

For the last ten or twelve years, Mr. Scott resided at "Richmond," Wolseley Road, Point Piper, Sydney, paying frequent visits to the station, and attending various functions at Walgett in furtherance of the interests of the district. He was an active and liberal supporter of the various local institutions, such as the hospital, the Pastoral and Agricultural Society and the Amateur Turf Club, the townspeople honouring him and honouring themselves by electing him on occasions to the position of president of each of these bodies. He was warmhearted and sympathetic, and withal unostentatious in his many acts of kindness, a good neighbour and a true and loyal friend; to know him was to esteem him.

In 1893 he married Miss Annie Capp Murray, daughter of the late Mr. G. A. Murray, of Milrae, in the Walgett district. His wife died in 1911, and he has passed away at the comparatively early age of 52, leaving a son, Mr. T. R. M. Scott, and a wide circle of friends to mourn the loss of one who by his kindly nature and fine sense of honour enjoyed the confidence of all who knew him.^[1]
