Biography

John Scott was born circa 1729 in Rappahannock, Virginia to parents Edward Scott (1706-1738) and Ann (Cox) Scott (1707-1738). John's father was Edward Scott. who in 1732 patented 550 acres "on the north side of the Fluvanna at a place called Totier.

Marriage

John married Margaret (Fry) Scott (1744-1811), daughter of Joshua Fry (1700-1754) and Mary (Micou) Fry (abt.1705-1772). Margaret was born 15 May 1744 in Goochland County and died 1811 in Albemarle County. Joshua Fry (1700-1754) lived at Viewmont, off Rt. 20 near Carter’s Bridge. Col. Fry and Peter Jefferson mapped early Virginia. Col. Fry’s wife was the daughter of Dr. Paul Micou (abt.1658-abt.1736) who was a medical doctor and a Huguenot. Dr. Micou died about 1736 and is buried at Vauter’s Church.

  1. John Jr - Designated informally as the founder of the 'Scottsville Scott' family.
  2. Charles Alexander Scott Sr., died 1865. - the forebear of the 'Monmouth Scotts'.
  3. Ann - married George Nicholas (1771-1812) of the 'Seven Islands' Nicholas family
  4. Edward
  5. Samuel
  6. Frances
  7. Daniel

Death

John died in July 1798 in Virginia.

Scott-18339 and Scott-12022 appear to represent the same person because: Same wife correct parents on the one profile, dates are not the same for birth and death. Following information from father's Will this is probably a match if dates are corrected.
