Jane (Scott) Harley was born in Hampshire, England.

Jane Elizabeth Scott was born in 1774 in Itchen Stoke with Abbotstone, in Hampshire, England. [1]

Her brother, Rev. James Scott, was Rector of Weston-super-Mare, Somerset and Lainston, Hampshire, England.

At Otterbourne, near Winchester, the rev. James Scott, Rector of Weston-super-Mare, Somerset and Lainston, Hampshire, was the son of the Rev. James Scott, M.A. Vicar of Itchen Stoke, Hampshire; and consequently brother to Jane the present Countess of Oxford.

Lord Edward Harley 5th Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer [3] married Jane Elizabeth Scott (Photos and bio.)[4] on the 3rd March, 1794. She was the daughter of Reverend James Scott, M.A., Vicar of Itchen Stoke in Hampshire, England. [5]

Parents of eight children:
1: Lady Jane Elizabeth Harley (2 March 1796 – 1 September 1872), married Lord Henry Bickersteth, 1st Baron Langdale.

2: Edward Harley, Lord Harley (20 January 1800 – 1 January 1828)

3: Lady Charlotte Mary Harley (12 December 1801 – 1880), in 1823 married Anthony Bacon

4: Lady Anne Harley (31 July 1803) married Signor Giovanni Battista Rabitti, Cavaliere San Giorgio (her husband died before 1845, leaving her a widow with three children)

5: Lady Frances Harley (26 January 1805 – 15 October 1872) married Lt.-Col. Henry Venables-Vernon-Harcourt, the son of the Archbishop of York.

6: Alfred Harley, 6th Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer (10 January 1809 – 19 January 1853)

7: Hon. Mortimer (17 December 1811 – 3 April 1812)

8: Lady Louisa, died young.

It is said that Due to his wife's infidelity, doubts were expressed about the paternity of many of the children, who were unkindly referred to as "the Harleian Miscellany." (which when you think about it, acknowledges their Harley heritage!)
