Notes

Thomas left a will in Halifax Co., VA naming children Nimrod Scott, Sr., John Scott, and Jacob Scott.

from a court order of 1777 Pittsylvania Co. VA. Susana Scott widow of Thomas Scott (desc) currently remarried to Smallwood Coghill Marlow brought suit against Nimrod Scott son of Thomas Scott. It looks like Thomas first wife had died and the children were all minors and even still at his death. Much of this info comes from Kenneth R. Scott's history on John Scott of 1761 - 1843.

History of John Scott, 1761-1843, by Kenneth Scott. John, Jacob [and their families], and their nephew Allen Clement Scott (son of Nimrod Sr) along with his wife and his sister, Sallie who was married to William Scott, came in the same wagon train to their new home in Kentucky, Nimrod, Sr. followed 1817-1820. This group of Scotts were located in the south central section of the county and were spread early north from the satate line along Kettle Creek and on PeaRidge up to at least Galloway Creek. This group of Scotts by far have the largest number of descendants in the Cumberland, KY area.

Research Notes

  • Halifax County was created 27 February 1752 from Lunenburg County. Lunenburg County was created 6 May 1745 from Brunswick County.
  • The person listed on Find A Grave as a son of Samuel Scott and Elizabeth Reade and who passed away in 1818 is said to have married a Susanna Newton on 15 May 1756, I have a feeling they are two different people and that this Thomas Scott should be removed as their son. BJS
