William Scott Born Jan 1807 in Ireland.
So far I have not found any records about William's years in Ireland, not about his parents or siblings, where in Ireland he lived and what his or his father's occupation was there. So anything you have on his early life would be very welcomed!
His mother and brothers listed here were added through a GED-COM upload from when I first started. I still need to prove the connection!
In 1831, when William is in his twenties, he leaves Ireland, immigrates to British North America (now Canada) and settles in the Parish of Dumfires, York County, Province of New Brunswick.
On 10 Oct 1837 William marries the native Frances Gray of Southampton in York County, New Brunswick.[1]
1851 Willaim is listed as a farmer in Dumfries, York, New Brunswick.[2] He is living with his wife and six children. Note: William's wife is called Hannah here, this is the olny record I found so far listing her as Hannah. Could Hannah be a middle name?
William's oldest daughter Mary Jane marries the Irish immigrant and farmer William Hartin about 1855. They stay in Canterbury, New Brunswick and raise eleven children.
1861 William's family is now listed as farmers living in the Parish of Canterbury, York, New Brunswick.[3] Note: Since Canterbury and Dumfies are neighboring Parishes, I assume the Scotts to be living at the same farm then in 1851, but it is also possible they relocated.
William's daughter Sarah marries the Irish immigrant Henry Gaskin in the early 1860ies. They stay in the neighbourhood and have five children together. Henry Gaskin dies about ten years later and Sarah marries her second husband George Vantassel about 1873, with whom she has six more children.
On 1 Jul 1867 the four British Colonies are united to Canada, the first Dominion of the British Empire.
William's son Charles marries about 1867. He runs a farm nextdoor, where he and his wife raise twelve children.
1871 William and his family are still living on their farm in Canterbury, York, New Brunswick.[4]
William's daughter Julia marries the farmer John Furrow on 29 Aug 1880. The couple stays in the area. In 1882 they become parents of their only child, their daughter Fanny.
William's youngest daughter Eliza marries the shoemaker Richard H. Scott also about 1880. They stay in Canterbury as well and become parents of at least four children.
1881 William, Frances and four of their sons are still listed in Canterbury, York, New Brunswick.[5]
All four of William's sons, who still live at home in 1881, leave Canada and immigrate to the USA. I don't know if they all left at the same time or seperatly and I am not sure of the exact year. George marries Esther Louise Larsen about 1883 in Utah, John marries Mary Ann Warren 1887 in Wisconsin, William Henry marries Mary Jane Gray 1895 in Utah and Robert marries Fannie M. Ricker Cameron 1896 in Maine.
Died 6 Feb 1890 probably in York, New Brunswick, Canada.
Buried at the Canterbury Cemetery in Canterbury, York County, New Brunswick, Canada.[6]
