Frances Maud Scott was born on March 24, 1871 at Knocknadona, County Antrim, Ireland. She is the daughter of Richard James Scott and Mary (Hendren) Scott.
On census day March 31, 1901 Fanny was visiting with the Ussher family at Ballyscolly, County Antrim. One of the Ussher family was Agnes Ussher who would be her witness at her wedding a week later.[1]

In january 1910, Fanny and her husband Robert adopted George Geddis Cox at birth. From this point the child was known as George Geddis.
On census day April 2, 1911 Fanny was living with her husband Robert George and her son George at 13 Mountcollyer Road in the Duncairn ward of Belfast, County Antrim. Also at the address was Richard Dawson, a boarder. The census return records that she had been married for ten years and had two children, one of whom was living.[2]
