Biography

1875 In December 1874 William Tasman Scott was born to Mary and Harry Scott. [1]

1896 Attempted suicide while in hospital. [2]
On January 8, 1896, at age 21, when residing at Heathcote Valley, Christchurch, he attempted to slit his throat with a razor.

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

A sad case of attempted suicide took place this morning. A young man named William Tasman Scott, twenty-one, son of a labourer residing at Heathcote Valley, about half-past eight this morning, after finishing his breakfast, kissed his mother, said good-bye to her and went out. His mother thought that he was going to the Addington Saleyards. About five minutes afterwards she heard groans from the garden, and found her son lying on his face among some raspberry canes, with his throat cut, and a razor by his side. The police were communicated with, and Constable Hayes, accompanied by Dr Hunt, went to the house. The young man was attended to by Dr Hunt, and afterwards removed to the Hospital.

1898 In 1898 Annie McDonald Kelly and William Tasman Scott were married. [3]

1902 As a soldier, he departed to fight in the Boer Wars as a member of the South Island Regiment aboard the Cornwall, 8 Februrary 1902.

1914 Divorce proceedings [4]
SCOTT'S SPOUSE SCOOTS.

Desertion was the grounds on which William Tasman Scott petitioned to be separated from his "lawful," Annie McDonald Scott. He reckoned he had donned khaki and gone to Africa with the third contingent during February, 1899. While he was' away he had no letters or picture postcards from his wife to cheer him up, and on his return from the front he telegraphed Annie, but discovered later that she had flown from the old nest and was working as a housekeeper. Soldier Willie fossicked her out and asked her to come back to his buzzum, but she refused point blank. He had always cared for her and left her provided for while, he was 'AWAY PLUGGING BOERS'. He had no idea why she wouldn't live with him. Private Tec. Frank Connell gave evidence of having served Annie at Ashburton with the citation papers on July 19. She said it was a good job Willie was going for a divorce because she didn't intend to live with him again.

1916 In 1916 Kate Cadwallader and William Tasman Scott were married. [5]

1955 Died in New Zealand, aged 80.[6]
