Helen Mary "Highland" Scott was born on May 11, 1811, in Montgomery, Virginia, her father, Thomas Scott, was 31, and her mother, Sallie Shelor, was 19. She married Bartlett Smith Jr on September 15, 1829, in Patrick, Virginia. They had 12 children in 24 years. She died on February 11, 1897, in Patrick, Virginia, having lived a long life of 85 years, and was buried in Meadows Of Dan, Patrick, Virginia.
