Biography

I suspect that there is one more generation between Robert and Ruth Scriven and the William currently listed as George Scriven's father.

There is a record for Robert Scriven in the England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 where he has a spouse named Elizabeth and a child named George, two names that come up for Scrivens in this area of England. Another record in the same group lists Robert with wife, Elizabeth and son William, which would support the tree as it is currently listed. [1] e only difficulty with this record is there are no dates listed for it.

There is a ship list for the "Globe" that includes a Robert Scriven among its 161 passengers on August 7, 1635. He is listed as 18 years old (which would mean a DOB of 1617, earlier than the original date in this profile. The Robert in this profile, however, was married to Ruth Teape in 1632, so this is probably not the same person.

There are a number of other records on Ancestry.com for a Robert Scriven about this time period, but none with enough detail to fit the one from Colyton born in 1920. One of the more interesting of these is one for Robert Scriven in the England & Wales, Christening Index, 1530-1980, with a spouse named Mary and son, William, but no dates. Another in closeby Dorset, England, Extracted Church of England Parish Records, has a DOD for Robert "Screven" of 19 Jul 1639 (a bit early, but possible) [2] The rest of them are like this, in the early 1600's, but with key elements missing for a certain connection.
