His obituary from the Webster and Hamilton Currier [1] tells how he was the son of Caleb and Mercy, and how Caleb manufactured shirts. Edgar attended school until he was forced to quit at 14 when his father died. He took up various positions in the family business: clerk and salesman. He was also a mail carrier in Troy, NY for three years. He moved to Iowa in 1878, started a grocery store, and at his death was one of the city's leading businessmen. He married June Scullen on June 21, 1871. He had two children, Lottie E. and Chloe R.
