Biography
Daniel E. Scriven is the son of John Adams Scriven and Phoebe Saunders Scriven. Since there are three Scrivens with the name Daniel, this is a recap of what FamilySearch.com lists: 3 Daniel Scriven; 1 Daniel Scrivens (with ending "s") The details are from the latter, son of Edward Scrivens (1782-1870) and Sybil Babcock (1797-1870). His siblings are Sylvia Scrivens (1819-), Diana W Scriven (1827-1920), and Jane Scrivens (1838-) The other Daniels had a named wife (Brock) and their DOB (the same) was too early. These seem like the same person. Perhaps the "E" is either a mistake and is one of these people, but it seems unlikely.
Daniel E. and his tombstone inscription is listed on Early Settlers of New York State, Vol. I, (October 1935, Tombstone Inscriptions, Nortonville Cemetery, Pittstown, Rensselaer County) Co. D 169th Reg. NY Vol. (1825-1899)
Daniel E. is listed on The National Park Service's Civil War list of Soldiers. [1] He is listed as fighting with the 7th Regiment, New York Cavalry, Company C as a Sergeant and Company Quartermaster. There are records of his pension for his service in the Civil War and of his widow Lydia receiving it in 1893. [2] He served in the Company C New York State Cavalry. [3] His enlistment record shows that he achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
