Biography

Harriet was the daughter of Samuel L Scriven (1803-1865) and Esther (Brock) Scriven (1804-1869). She was born in 1844 in Petersburg, New York.

Harriet married Irving Porter Babcock about 1866. They had four children: Porter LeGrand Babcock (1862-1934), Grace (Babcock) Eldred Beals Davis (1865-1929), Elizabeth “Libbie” (Babcock) Campbell (1867-1932), and Herbert L Babcock (1869-1954).

Her son Porter, better known as LeGrand, married to Hattie Lewis - his first cousin, daughter of Harriet’s oldest sister Susannah.

Harriet died in 1885, just 40-41 years old. It appears her husband did not remarry as he is in the 1900 Federal Census living next door to their daughter Libbie.
