Biography

John Sale is listed in the DAR files.

The connection to this family is through the Helmick family history. The Helmick family has a second connection through Clary Sale (1788 North Carolina - 1860 Missouri) who married Rodden Thompson.

Source for the Sale family, Cornelius Sale through Samuel Sale found in the Ancestral file at FamilySearch.com Number 77846.ged.

There is an entry in "Wills of Amherst County, Virginia 1761-1865" for Jno Sale - will dated August 7, 1809; proved May 15, 1815. Wife Frances is Executrix. Witnesses were Barnett and Samuel Cash and James Hix. The testator mentioned daughter Mollie who married Chas Houchin. [The FamilySearch entry mentions that Houchins from Amherst discovered Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.] The will said that the executors should save enough for a visit to the western country where Mollie lives. It mentioned that there were "nine" other children, but the only ones named were Thomas, John, Nancy wife of Thomas Goodrich, Cornelius and Samuel Sale. The ancestral file shows eleven children so if these were indeed their children, two must have died prior to 1815. I have deleted Elizabeth because I have a marriage record for her that shows Cornelius Sale as her father. (Author of this gedcom file is unknown.)

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Sale-562 and Sale-181 appear to represent the same person because: both were the son of Anthony Sale. Sale-181 uses a source that states that; managers need to decide on location of birth
