What was an engine driver doing in India, where their two sons were born? Did Edward die there? Did he return to Sydney with Susannah and the children and die there, or somewhere else altogether?
Catherine's second marriage, to John Hennessy, states she is a widow, but no obvious death can be found in Australia for Edward James.
Answer - Yes, he did die in Bombay, in 1873. He appears to have been there working with the GIP (Great India Peninsula) Railway, as his death notice in the Times of India mentions the GIP.
