Biography

Constant was the son of Nathaniel Searlel & Elizabeth Kinnecut

He married Hannah Miner on 16 May 1751 in Stonington, New London, CT

Their children were William, Hannah, Constant (1756-1759), Elizabeth, a second Constant, Rogers, Ruth, Sarah & James

He was killed fighting in the "Wyoming Massacre" against Indians in PA

From Searle Family History from Obituary of Clarissa Dayton (Searle) Dean:

Clarissa Dayton Searle, widow of Nelson N. Dean, died March 31, 1908, at Waverly, Pa., She was born at Plttston, Luzerne County, Pa. Nov. 14, 1824. on the farm of her ancestor, Roger Searle.

She was the daughter of John and Mary (Stark) Searle, granddaughter of Roger Searle and great-granddaughter of Constant Searle, pioneer settler of Wyoming Valley, from Stonington, Conn., who was killed In the Wyoming massacre, July 3, 1778.

This Constant Searle lived at Forty Fort, where later was established the Shoemaker homestead, and it was from that place that Constant Searle went to the battle and to his death on July 3, 1778.

When the Searle family went back to the valley, their home was occupied by others, and the son. Roger Searle, located at Pittston near where the Ravine Shaft was later built and where the ferry was established.

Roger's brother, William Searle, bought a farm southeast of Roger's farm, where the Butler shaft was later built.

Through the Searle and Stark families Mrs. Dean was connected with several of the oldest families in Wyoming Valley, by blood or marriage. Constant Searle' s wife was Hannah Miner of Stonlngton, Conn., a relative of the Miner family at Wilkes-Barre. Abigail Searle, daughter of William and granddaughter of Constantm married Stephen Abbott and their son, Fuller Abbott, married Charlotte Miner, daughter of Charles Miner, the historian.

Eliza Abbott, daughter of Stephen and Abigail (Searle) Abbott, married Robert Miner, son of Asher Miner, who was a brother of the historian.

Roger Searle married Catherine Scott, daughter of John Scott of Pittston, who owned Everhart Island -ind the flats near Coxton. The mother of Catherine Scott was a Carey, a family early in the valley.

Ruth Searle, daughter of Constant Searle, Jr., married John Gore of the family who lived below Pittston and which lost flve members In the masracre, three brothers and two brothers-in-law.

William Searle. grandson of Constant, married Mary Heermans, sister of Henry Heermans of Providence and Philip Heermans of Hyde Park. Hannah Searle, daughter of William Searle, Jr., married Christopher Von Storch, the founder of that family at Providence. Pa.
