Biography

Joseph Seaver was born on 7 Sept 1822[1] in Roxbury, Massachusetts (now a neighborhood of Boston, the son of Joshua Seaver, born in Roxbury, and Nancy Sumner, born in Dorchester.[2] He was their second son of that name, the first having died on 10 March 1821 at Roxbury.[3] (His Masonic record shows that he was born in Jamaica Plain.[1])

Joseph, the son of Joshua and Nancy Seaver, was baptized on 15 July 1824 at Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[4][5]

Marriage and Children

Based on the 1850 US Census, Joseph and Angeline Parker was married about 1850. Angeline died on 15 Aug 1894.[6] They had at least the following children:

  • Ephraim Parker Seaver, b. 24 Feb 1851[7]; d. 28 Mar 1918[8]
  • Howard Curtis Seaver, d. Dec 1853
  • Edward W. Seaver, b. ca. Sept 1853; m. Emma E. Jordan 11 Nov 1879[9]
  • Joseph Henry Seaver, d. April 1856
  • William Seaver, b. ca. 1855
  • Henry Seaver, b. 28 April 1858[10]
  • Joshua Herbert Seaver, b. ca. 1860; m. Ida E. Turner 20 Oct 1881[11]; d. 1923[12]
  • Carrie Angeline Seaver, b. 8 Jan 1868[13]
  • Nathaniel Seaver, b. ca. 1870; m1. Mary Harriet HIggins 11 Sep 1895[14] (div); m2. Henrietta Colburn 10 Aug 1916[15]

Mason

He was a member of the Dalhousie Lodge of the Masons, where he was initiated on 17 April 1872. He was a Station agent and lived in Newton Lower Falls in 1874. He was dismissed from that Lodge on 11 Nov 1883. He rejoined the Meridian Lodge on 29 April 1885.[1]

Death

Joseph died on 25 March 1910 at Newton, Middlesex, Massachusetts. He was a widower and was 87 years, 6 months and 18 days old at the time of his death.[2] (His Masonic record shows that he died on 24 March 1910.[1])

Burial

Joseph was buried at the Forest Hills Cemetery and Crematory, Jamaica Plain, Suffolk, Massachusetts,[16] where he shares a grave monument with his wife Angeline Parker and babies Howard Curtis and Joseph Henry.

In the 1850 US census, Joseph Seaver (age 27, provision dealer, $2,500 in real property, born MA) and Angeline (age 23, born MA) resided in Roxbury, Norfolk County, MA. [LDS Microfilm 0,443,550, page 204, family #3245].

1860
In the 1860 US Census, the Joseph Seaver family resided in Newton, Middlesex County, MA. The household included Joseph (age 36, watchman, born MA, $300 in personal property), Angeline (age 32, born MA), E. Parker (age 9, born MA), Edward (age 7, born MA), William (age 5, born MA), Joshua H. (age 1/12, born MA), and Ephraim Parker (age 62, born MA). [LDS Microfilm 0,803,510, p. 729, house #2012].

1870
In the 1870 US census, the Joseph Seaver family resided in Newton, Middlesex County, MA. The household included Joseph (age 47, engineer, born MA), Angeline (age 43, housekeeping, born MA), Epharum P. (age 19, clerk in store, born MA), Edward W. (age 17, clerk in store, born MA), William (age 15, at school, born MA), Joshua H. (age 10, at school, born MA), Nathaniel (age 5, at home, born MA) and Carrie A. (age 2, at home, born MA). 1880
In the 1880 US Census, this family resided in the 4th Ward of Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The household included Joseph Seaver (self, married, male, white, age 56, born MA, RR agent, parents born MA), Evangeline Seaver (wife, married, female, white, age 52, born MA, keeping house, parents born MA), Nathaniel Seaver (son, single, male, white, age 15, born MA, at school, parents born MA), and Carrie A. Seaver (daughter, single, female, white, age 12, born MA, at school, parents born MA) [National Archives Microfilm Series T9, Roll 0546, Page 109C].

1900
In the 1900 US Census, Joseph Seaver (head, white, male, age 77, born Sep 1822, widowed, born MA, parents born MA, no occupation) and his daughter Carrie A. Seaver (white, female, age 32, born Jun 1868, single, born MA, parents born MA) resided on Concord Street in the 4th Ward of Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts [National Archives Microfilm Series T623, Roll 664, ED 902, Sheet 1B, line 71].
