Hannah Clough was born in 1788 in Arundel (later known as Kennebunkport), Maine, the daughter of Nicholas and Jane (Hutchins) Seavey. She was one of six children. [1][2]
She married Enoch Cluff, in 1807. Hannah Seavey and Enoch Cluff published their intention to marry on 24 October 1807 in Arundel where is appears they are both residing. [3][4]
They resided in Kennebunkport for many years, where all seven of their children were born: [5]
Samuel L., 1811-1883
Arseneth, 1814-1885
Josiah Sirius, 1817-1895
Cyrus, 1820-1897
Charles C., 1831-1862
Emily S., b. 1832
By 5 May 1850, Hannah lived in Boston, Massachusetts, with her son Samuel and his family. Her husband is not listed with her. [6] He passed away the following year.
She died in Boston in 1869, when she was 81 years old. She is buried in Kennebunkport, Maine. [1][5]
Research Notes
Birth Record is required. Her date of birth would be about Feb 1788, based on her age at death per her record of death. Find a Grave page records her birth as 21 Sep 1788. Her Death Record indicates she was born in Kennebunkport which is not unusual as the geographical area in which she was born had its name legally changed by the time of her death. However, the municipality was Arundel at the time of her birth. Find a Grave indicates Arundel which is historically corrrect. [1][5][2]
Hannah's married name appears to have evolved over time or frequently been incorrectly transcribed. The name is spelled Cluff on their marriage records. However, she appear as Clough as does her son on the 1850 Census and their memorial stones are engraved Clough. [3][4][6]
Find a Grave lists 6 children in the biography section of the memorial page. That list does not include Arseneth and includes Heber R. None of the children have dates listed nor are their memorial pages attached. Information is provided by Find a Grave contributor Joseph Fitzgerald. [5]
