Biography

Claude was born in 1921, possibly in Virginia.^[1] His parents may have been John and Bessie Selfe. If so the family was living in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia in 1930.^[2]

Claude enlisted in the US Army in 1942 in Ft Oglethorpe, Georgia.^[3]

Claude passed away in 1992.^[4] Burial was in the Garden of Devotion in Tallahassee Memory Gardens (cemetery), Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida.^[5] He actually has two grave markers a few graves apart. One is his military marker which is inscribed: PVT US Army World War II. The other he shares with his wife, Ileen, and is inscribed: Together Forever.^[6]
