Biography

Nancy Sellers was born on Oct 11, 1826 in Perry County, Mississippi, USA as the third child of John Sellers and Sarah Joriah McLemore.

She had thirteen siblings, namely: James W., Elizabeth Ann, Irvin, Richard, John Andrew Sr, Sarah Ann, Noel Garvil, Hardy, Mary E., Christopher Columbus, Francis Marion Sr, Susan Acquilla, and Rosannah.

She died between 1858–1864 in Jackson, Hinds, Mississippi, USA (present day Whitfield Mental Hospital).

When she was 14, she married Henry Clark, son of Moses Clark II and Elizabeth Miller, in 1841.

Nancy Sellers lived in Perry County, Mississippi, USA in 1850 (Age: 25).

Henry Clark and Nancy Sellers had the following children:

  1. John Clark was born about 1842 in Mississippi, USA.
  2. Leonidas Clark was born about 1844 in Mississippi, USA.
  3. Irvin Clark was born on Apr 27, 1847 in Perry County, Mississippi, USA. He died on Jun 30, 1916 in Simpson County, Mississippi, USA (Age at Death: 69). He married Syntha Laurecia Whitehead in 1870 (based upon 1900 census).
  4. Joriah Elizabeth Clark was born on Apr 26, 1849 in Perry County, Mississippi, USA. She died on Aug 28, 1935 (Age at Death: 86).
  5. Mary Clark was born about 1852 in Mississippi, USA.

Nancy was placed in the mental hospital, Jackson, Hind, Mississippi, in about 1858 where she died in 1864. [1] [2]

Book A, pages 161 through 169, number 2738 - Clark - there is a reuest by Henry Clark for a mental inquestation for his wife, Nancy. Henry stated Nancy was out of touch with reality and he was a poor man, not having adequate resources to care for her in her condition. The inquisition indeed proved to go as Henry had stated. The Judge ordered the sheriff, Hugh A McLeod, to pick her up and transport her to Jackson Miss to be delivered to the Superintendant of the State Lunatic Asylum, effective immediatly. This was done January 30, 1857.
