When John N. Sewell was born on September 7, 1777, in Rowan, North Carolina, his father, Samuel, was 62 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 37. He married Mary Richmond on November 5, 1802, in his hometown. They had at least six children during their marriage. He died on August 24, 1862, in Banks, Georgia, having lived a long life of 84 years, and was buried there.
