Biography

Nathan was born 1 Jan 1856 in KY.

In 1860, Nathan, 4, was living in Panther Creek, Hancock, TN, with his parents, John, 30, and Lelly, 17. Also in the household were Epahaim, 3, and Lewis, 1. Nathan was born in Kentucky.[1]

In 1870, Nathan, 15, lived in Prestonsburg, Floyd, Kentucky with his parents, Clark, 29, and Letta, 28. Also in the household were Ephraim, 14, Lewis, 9, Jefferson, 8, Robert G, 5, Elizabeth, 3, and Manda 11 mo. Clark was born in VA, everyone else were born in KY. Clark had a personal estate of $100.[2]

In 1880, Nathan, 24, was living in White Shoals, Lee VA with his wife, Betty, 22 and son, Ira, 1. His parents,Clark and Lettie, and his brother Ephriam and family are all living close by. Nathan was born in KY. Betty was born in VA. Nathan was a farmer.[3]

In 1900, Nathan, Jun 1856, was living in Hancock, TN with his wife, Lizzie, Jun 1878. Also in the household were Burg, May 1887, Daniel, Jun 1881, and Porter, May 1883. Nathan and Lizzie had only been married one year and she hadn’t given birth to any children so Nathan was married before. He was a farmer.[4]

In 1910, Nathan, 65, was living in White shoals, Lee, VA, with his wife, Liza, 33. Also in the household were Vance, 8, Ezra, 6, Nancy E, 4, and William L, 1. Nathan and Liza had been married 10 yrs. She had given birth to 5 children, 4 still alive. This census shows Nathan was born in VA. He had a small farm which he owned.[5]

Nathan died May 17, 1917. He is buried in Crumley Cemetery, Hancock, TN.[6]

Per story posted by bsexton47 in 2012 on ancestry.com: Nathan Sexton is buried in Crumley Cemetery, Mulberry Gap, Lee, VA. When Nathan died it was so wet that the hearse couldn't drive to the cemetery. The pallbearers carried his casket on their shoulders about 1/4 mile mostly up a steep hill.
