Ethel Lucina Shafer was born near Independence in Polk County, Oregon on December 18, 1889.[1] She had three older sisters, four older brothers and two younger brothers.[2] The 1910 census shows that Ethel worked as a "hop branner" on a hop farm.[3]
On November 17, 1910, she married Walter Kizer in Polk County.[4] Walter and Ethel had two sons and two daughters between 1914 and 1929.[5,6,7] Ethel died on December 19, 1972 in Portland, Oregon.[8,9]
