"I would advise that while there is no record on file in this office for service of a Captain Peter Bernard Schaeffer during the period of the Revolutionary War, 1775-1783, it is shown that a Captain Peter B. SHAVER served in the armed forces during such war period. This officer's name is also shown as Peter Bernhardt Shaver; Baltus Shaver; Balturs Shaver and Peter Barnet Shaver.

"In view of the similarity of names and service of these two men, there is given herein all information available in the archives of this office pertaining to the military record of Peter B. SHAVER:

PETER B. SHAVER - Hardwick, Sussex County.

Captain, Second Regiment, Sussex County Militia, February, 1777.

"Marksboro [New Jersey], two miles from the [Armstrong] homestead, is a flourishing town, made so by its water privileges. One mile below the last-named village Peter B. Shafer, son of Casper, cleared a farm and built a mill. His family and Judge [John] Armstrong's were related by marriage. One mile below Peter B. Shafer's was Judge Armstrong's mill; it was situated in a small village called Lawrenceville, and went by that name until 1830 when a new name became necessary, and Dr. W.P. Vail, then a resident, proposed the name Paulina after the Kill it was situated on; and since then it has been known by that beautiful name.". 1
