James McClure located near Mechanicsburg in 1830 having purchased land from James McNeese. He came from Westmoreland County with his wife and four children: Hiram, Martha, Cyrus and Catherine. Five more children were added to the family after living here. H. W. McClure, one of the sons, resides on a farm in the southern part of the township which was formerly owned by George Vogan.[3]
