Biography

Birth of Mary Ann Shaffer found in German Church Records Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Zion Church Baptisms. Name recorded as Maria, Parents Jacob Schaffer and Catharina, sponsor Anna Maria, widow. [1]

Mary Ann Shaffer and George Heckathorn were married about 1818 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania where they resided until 1846. [2] George Hackathorn (sic) named as a taxpayer in Beaver County 1841 to 1846. [3]

Another source connecting Mary Ann Shaffer to parents JACOB SHAFFER 1775 – 1825 and CATHERINE KENNEDY 1779 – unknown is found in Beaver County Deed Records. George Heckathorn and Mary his wife convey to brother James Shaffer the undivided one tenth of Lot #98 first district donation land, Slippery Rock, Beaver County, Pennsylvania as heir of Jacob Shaffer deceased. This land would later be conveyed to brother Abraham Shaffer who eventually obtained all ten shares of said property. [4]

In the 1850 United States Census, the family is found in Cornplanter Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. In 1860 and 1870, they family is found in Cranberry Township where they would remain until their death.
