Biography

Aaron Shank was a veteran of Both WWI and WWII - U.S. Marine Corps. His enlistment dates were 12-18-1918 and 4-23-1942. His discharge dates were 6-30-1922 and 10-11-1944.

The Washington Post - November 16th, 1919 has printed in their "Licensed to Marry" column: Aaron C. Shank, 22, and Marion V. Riddle, 21, Balston, Va. The reverend Norman W. Phillips. However, Marion was not 21. She was 15. Her birthday was February 14, 1904.

The 1920 Federal Census (Washington City - Northwest Section) has Marion and Aaron Custer Shank living in a boarding House owned by James W. and Mary Power on the date that the census was taken, January 4, 1920. Arron's occupation is listed as clerk, and his employer as the US Government. The number associated with this house on the US Census is 3613/95/101. I believe that this house was on 1st Street. They had one child together, Eleanor Virginia Shank, born July 15, 1920. They divorced within three or four years.

The 1930 Census has Aaron, age 29, as the head of a household in Clifton Heights, Delaware, PA, married to Gladys E. Shank, age 22. with Winifred F. Shank, age 4 and Aaron C. Shank, age 2, and Emma Howard, age 65. Eleanor Shank Young saw her father very rarely. She saved a gold collar pin in the shape of a riding crop that he gave her for her riding habit on a rare meeting when she was in her teens.

Aaron C. Shank is buried in Fern Hill Cemetary in Aberdeen, Washingon.
