She is named "Frances" in her husband's Probate. Is there a reliable source that "Anna" is her first name, and "Frances" is a middle name.

I truly do not know. Vincent Piazza created this profile in 2013, and I adopted it last year. In looking at various family trees, I have seen Matthew's wife listed variously as Francis Ann Pickens, Ann Pickens, Ann Lowry (?) and Anna Frances Shannon. I have looked through some sites for both Anna Frances Shannon and just Frances Shannon and have had no luck finding her. According to what Vincent put in, she was born in Augusta, Virginia Colony. I didn't find a record of a Shannon family there in that time. I could also have missed it. I have no idea where Vincent found this information. I honestly don't know what to tell you.

I know the link leads to a page from the book "Pickens Families of the South", but that particular information regarding Frances is factually incorrect. Frances Patterson (1779-1853), daughter of John Patterson and Margaret Baskin, married Lowry Gillespie (1771-1851), son of James Gillespie and Elizabeth Stuart Baskin, in 1796 in South Carolina, at age 17. In fact, she was age 13 when Matthew Jr. died in 1792. Lowry Gillespie is the grandson of Matthew Gillespie Jr. and Ann Pickens. I know this because I am descended from Lowry and Frances' son, Pickens Hargrove Gillespie.

Gillespie-3128 and Shannon-755 are not ready to be merged because: no dates, locations, no family eg parents, siblings, spouse or children on one profile. Therefore unable to ascertain if they represent the same person.
