Biography
Oliver Phelps, author of The Phelps Family Of America, says that when Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Adams, marrried Edward Phelps, ca. 164_, she was "probably widow of son of Samuel Sharp of Salem."[1] The identity of this alleged first husband is not currently known, and no other sources have yet been found to corroborate this marriage.
Research Notes
According to the WikiTree profile of Samuel Sharp the immigrant, which is based on the text of Robert Anderson's The Great Migration Begins, Samuel Sharp had three sons, Elias (bp. 1637-), Edward (bp. 1639-) and Nathaniel (bp. 1644-). Nothing further is known of the first two, and the third is said to have married Rebecca Marshall in 1688. If their baptism dates are close to their birth dates, they all appear to have been too young to have been a first husband of Elizabeth Adams.
