In 1908, his mother wrote the following in her memoir: "Wm. P. Sharp, our first son, was born Aug. 5, 1838. He married Ann Higgins in year 1860. He lived in Ill. 20 years. Sold out went to Kansas. They lived 20 years in Kansas. Accumulated a good fortune. Had three sons. He gave them a good education an 2 are very successful Dr., one was a teacher an a man of successful business. His widow lives in Howard (Kansas) near his oldest son. They were all in good circumstances an him an his wife thought they would visit me in yaer 1904. They came. His health had been delicate for some time an this trip to Ind. taxt him too much an he only lived 2 weeks after he came, this wife took his remains back to Longton, Kansas. He was intered in the cemetery near Longton. He has been a Christian preacher for several years. He had charge of 4 churches till he died."
