Biography

The son of Jacob Sharp and Florence Brady. Avery Lloyd Sharp, 79, Prominent canning company operator and civil leader of Celina, died at 3:30 pm Thursday in Gibson Hospital here after a long illness. Mr. Sharp was head of the Sharp Canning Co., which has plants in Rockford and Ohio City. His son, Richard, has managed the plants in recent years but his father has been active in the operations of the business. Mr. Sharp was also the director in the Citizens Bank of Celina, the Ohio General Telephone Co. and the Ohio Canner Assn. He also was president of the Official Board of St. Paul's Methodist Church here. Mr. Sharp moved to Celina in 1906 and became associate with his father in law I. E. Crampton, in the operation of the latter's canning company which later was purchased by Stockley. In 1925, Mr. Sharp formed his own firm and established a cannery in Rockford. He formerly served on Council and the Board of Education in Celina, was a past president of the Celina Kiwanis Club and the North Shore Country Club here. He also was a past master of the Masonic Lodge, past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, past master of the Celine Chapter, Royal Arch Masons and a member of the council of Royal and Select Masters at St. Marys, the Knights Templar commandery at Van Wert, the Scottish Rite consistory at Toledo and Antioch Temple of the Shrine at Dayton. Surviving are his widow Lola, the son Richard, a sister Mrs. Harry McCreery of Gaston, Ind. and a foster sister Mrs. William Bradfield of Gaston. Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday in the Vale Funeral Home with Dr. Donald Mueller in charge. Burial will be made in North Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vale Funeral Home.
